BUCK ROGERS

70TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

Preserved in a state of suspended animation for 500 years by the Nirvano gas in the gondola of their dirigible wrecked in the arctic ice wastes, Buck Rogers (Buster Crabbe) and Buddy (Jackie Moran) are rescued by scientists in the year 2500 to find the world under the despotic rule of Killer Kane (Anthony Warde) and his super gangsters.

"It's a quantum improvement over the previous edition, both in presentation and in supplemental features. If you own the previous VCI disc, you may want to sell, trade or throw it away and upgrade to the new edition. It's that much better."
- Christopher Mills, DVD Last Show 2.0

A WALK IN THE SUN

During the World War II Allied invasion of Italy, the film stars Dana Andrews as Sgt. Tyne, one of the officers leading an attack on a farmhouse in the Italian countryside which functions as a German stronghold. When the ranking officers are killed soon after the platoon lands on the beach, Tyne must take over. The film is noted for its attempt to portray the infantryman’s experience realistically, in particular the banter and mid-1940s slang.

"VCI release goes a long way toward restoring this remarkable film to its proper place in film history, as a token of that brief moment between the winding down of one war and the ramping up of the next: the cold war, which would haunt American movies for the next two decades. "
- Dave Kehr, The New York Times

THE GREEN HORNET

The Green Hornet is a masked fictional crime fighter, originally created by George W. Trendle for an American radio program in the 1930s.The character has appeared in two Universal serials. In the first 13 episode serial, the city is faced with rising crime and increased racketeering activity. Intrepid newspaper editor, Britt Reid (Gordon Jones) becomes the crime fighter the Green Hornet to take on the bad guys. As far as the police are concerned, the Hornet himself is the criminal.

Kudos to VCI Entertainment for once again making some rare serials available. Their latest DVDs are the Universal serials THE GREEN HORNET (1940) and THE GREEN HORNET STRIKES AGAIN (1941). - Dan Scapperotti, STARLOG Magazine

"It feels like a European film through and through, which — as a product of the exiled German film industry in Hollywood — it almost literally is. "
